Hungary

Introduction

bp has been present In Hungary since 1991 and with the opening of our business service centre in Budapest in 2009, we have shown our commitment to the growth of our operations, the economic impact on the country and to the local community. Today, we offer a wide range of career opportunities in Budapest and Szeged.

Products and services

bp has been present In Hungary for decades, being represented at the beginning by its well-known global fuel and lubricant products including bp – and later ARAL fuel station networks between 1993 and 1999 – together with Castrol products, which have been available on the Hungarian market since 1989.

In 2009, bp established its fully owned internal business-supporting European Centre (GBS Europe – Global Business Services, Europe) in Budapest and in 2017 opened its second office in Szeged. By the end of 2019, with around 2,500 employees, bp in Hungary is the 4th largest bp office globally, a significant employer and business entity in Hungary, as well as in the CEE region, especially within the SSC sector. The Centre creates value for bp across the world, by providing financial, procurement and HR process optimization and standardization solutions, as well as customer service experience.

Who we are

We are a global energy business with enormous reach across the complex energy system that drives our world.

From the deep sea to the desert, from rigs to retail, our people wake up every day to track, trade and deliver the world’s energy in real time.

Our industry is changing faster than ever before. To address the energy challenges of the world today and for tomorrow, we are modernizing the way we work – continually improving, to be more efficient, reduce costs and be more sustainable. This includes simplifying and standardizing business processes, operating them across our network of global service centres and driving significant added value for bp.

Community

In Hungary, bp has active corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives to work with, and give back to the communities in which we operate.

Our community programmes in Hungary at both of our office locations (Budapest and Szeged) are developed by our local operations in line with local needs and circumstances. We believe this is the best way of ensuring that what we do is relevant and meaningful for the communities in which we operate.

In addition to these programmes, bp in Hungary aims to help shaping an inclusive society – where, people are measured by their performance rather than their cultural, physical or personal differences. By supporting civil organizations, bp in Hungary wants to contribute to and foster intercultural understanding, social cohesion and to help communities to embrace differences.

Our life

In Hungary we have operated bp’s Global Business Services organization, which is an integrated part of bp, since 2009. Our first office was opened in Budapest, followed by starting our operation in Szeged in 2017. We invest in people’s futures in order to be deliver increased value. Guided by our bp values, we are working towards solving the big, complex challenges facing our world today – such as the need for more energy while lowering carbon emissions. In our offices in Budapest and Szeged, we work in the field of customer service, finance, accounting, procurement, HR services and other enabling functions to contribute to solving the dual challenge.

We opened our first office in Hungary 15 years ago. We’re very proud to have had a presence in the country, providing opportunities for thousands of people to build their careers in a supportive and forward-thinking environment.

bp 15th anniversary celebration

The anniversary celebration that took place on 25 August 2024 was nothing short of spectacular! It brought together Budapest and Szeged colleagues for the first time at Budapest Park, setting the perfect tone for the evening. The event was filled with energy, laughter and a vibrant atmosphere that left everyone buzzing with joy.

The incredible Momentán Theatre kicked things off with their signature improvisational humour, instantly breaking the ice and setting the mood for an evening of fun and connection. As the night unfolded, the entertainment soared to new heights with live performances by Szabó Balázs Band and the electrifying Ivan & the Parazol, whose music had everyone dancing and singing along.

Adding a meaningful touch to the festivities, we welcomed our CSR partner,  Budapest Bike Maffia, who brought two engaging awareness-raising activities. Their presence reminded us of the importance of giving back, even while celebrating.

For those who preferred a relaxed vibe, Homoludens Association curated an amazing selection of board games that sparked friendly competition and brought out everyone’s playful side. Meanwhile, conversations flowed freely over delicious food and drinks, with plenty of laughter and smiles to go around.

The night wouldn’t have been complete without a thoughtful takeaway. Thanks to Diverzitás Foundation, every guest left with a small but meaningful gift as a token of appreciation for being part of this special evening.

This year’s party wasn’t just a celebration of milestones – it was a true reflection of what makes this team and company so unique: a perfect blend of fun, teamwork, and purpose. Here’s to many more memorable moments together!

Humanitarian efforts

Our humanitarian response effort towards Ukraine focused on directing donations and resources where they would have the greatest impact. In 2022 and 2023 bp Hungary donated $1 million towards eight beneficiary partners, who collaborated with many other organizations and foundations reaching out to Ukrainian people living – temporarily – in Hungary or staying in Ukraine. All in all, with this donation activity, bp Hungary could help humanitarian efforts of more than 50 organizations supporting a minimum of 1,500 families in and from Ukraine.

The video below summarizes our top three initiatives showcasing our biggest charity partners: United Way, the Salvation Army and Hungarian Foodbank. United Way’s #UnitedForUkraine programme actively supports initiatives organized by civil society to enhance access to and participation in education for refugee children and youth. The funding provided by bp could support 20 civil initiatives, positively impacting the lives of over 1,700 children, 850 adults and 90 teachers.

The video also showcases the House of Crossroads operated by the Salvation Army of Hungary, which offers vital services to the homeless and those in need. In 2024 the house was renovated and 10 apartments within the facility refurbished, offering refuge to Ukrainian families. Currently, seven of these apartments accommodates families with young children.

The Learning Without Borders project organized by Migration Aid offers education and daytime care for Ukrainian pupils. With the support of bp Hungary, the Hungarian Foodbank provided 60 meals per day to children and teachers attending the LWB programme 2 school year long. Additionally, a portion of the financial support was allocated to aid in feeding individuals residing in Ukraine as well as refugees who have fled to Hungary.

bp brought energy and excitement to the SZIN Festival in Szeged for the fifth time, spending four unforgettable days engaging with festival goers. At the centre of the festival buzz, the bp Main Stage drew crowds with unforgettable concerts, while the bp Recharge Station became a favourite destination, offering visitors a chance to recharge, relax, and have fun.

Festival visitors experienced a unique taste of bp culture through interactive activities at the bp Recharge Station. From testing their knowledge with the bp quiz to pedalling on the smoothie bike, adding sparkle at the Glitter Hut, or simply unwinding in the relaxing recharge zone, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Pride March 2024
In June 2024, team members of bp proudly joined the Pride March Budapest together with friends and family to show support for the community and reinforce our commitment to fostering an inclusive environment. This year’s route started on Podmaniczky Street and led through the magical streets of downtown, including the beautiful Andrássy Avenue. Participants passed the iconic Heroes’ square before finally resting in the shade of the trees in front of the stunning Vajdahunyad Castle. The event gathered thousands of participants advocating for LGBTQ+ rights. It was great to be there, take part and stand up for our rights. The bp team walked alongside other organizations, waving rainbow flags and sharing messages of love and acceptance. It was an inspiring experience, highlighting the importance of solidarity and equal rights for all.

MME 2025 Award

bp Hungary has been awarded the Most Attractive Employer of 2024 in the BSC/SSC sector for the fourth consecutive year, based on the PwC’s Employee Preference Survey.
